Argentinian-born artist Pilar Zeta is a Multimedia Artist & Director. Her creations granted her international recognition, including a 2021 Grammy nomination for her role as Art Director for Coldplay’s ‘Everyday Life’. In 2021, Zeta was commissioned to do the central installation during Miami Art Basel at Faena Miami. Under the name ‘Hall of Visions,’ this site-specific monumental installation was open to the public through Art Week and lived forever in the form of NFTs. Zeta’s art is influenced by her upbringing and a nascent interest in Ancient Egypt, cosmology, and metaphysics. Having been introduced to esoteric philosophies from a young age, Pilar Zeta’s understanding of Neo-Metaphysical concepts is ubiquitous throughout her various artistic creations.

How did you start your career in crypto art?

I started doing digital art in 2010. I’ve always loved using software to express myself and create art pieces. I used to upload them on Tumblr back in the day. It wasn’t after the NFT movement that digital art started to be considered “real art.”

How can we increase the involvement of women in crypto?

By inspiring them to learn computer software. It is an incredible tool for creating art. The possibilities are infinite. Everyone's vision can be created digitally!

What are the main guiding principles behind your work? Can you step outside yourself for a moment and let us know what you see?

My work is very intuitive. There is not really a formula when I use color or shapes. I like to combine it with the idea of symbolism and the effect that it creates in our subconscious minds.

Do you get any particular source of inspiration for the visual styles of your works e.g. do they arrive in relation to the place (physical, psychological, or situational) you were located at the time?

Yes. I’ve always been very interested from an early age in occult principles, ancient Egypt, quantum physics, and the use of symbolism in our subconscious as a guiding principle on how we can manipulate our reality.

My work is a fusion of these strange metaphysical concepts combined with colorful postmodern architecture and elemental shapes. The mix of these unrelated worlds is the result of my pieces.

Can you dive a bit into the technical aspects of the works? Software or hardware used (in the wide sense; it could be thoughts and bodies), as well as the editing process? What are some of the particular challenges you and your team have faced in realizing the works?

It all starts with a concept and a 2D sketch. I begin intuitively creating elementary shapes and colors, and once I am happy with how it looks in the two-dimensional world, I start modelling sculptures in 3D.

Once I am satisfied, I work with a fantastic team to bring this work to life. The goal is to make it as realistic as possible to envision how the piece would look in the real world.

What I am most excited about creating digital pieces is the idea of building in the physical plane. For me, the digital plane is our new sixth sense, but we can’t forget we are still physical beings. That’s why I like to create works in both realms.

Can you tell us about the relationship you want or aim to have with the viewer? What is the underlying approach to this relationship?

The goal is for the viewer to enter an alternative reality and create subconsciously, through the use of symbols, colors, and shapes,  a completely new empowered experience for themselves.

Tell us a secret about your work. Even a small one.

Once I had a dream that I was opening an envelope, and inside it said, “The Secret of the universe is EGG,” That is when I started using eggs as primordial shapes in my sculptures.
